Inspirational dancer, choreographer and one of the finest exponents of Maghreb dance – is briefly in the U.K for only
one London workshop.

A journey to al Andalus
Explore the rich tapestry of movement and rhythm that has woven over time between Spain and North Africa led by the
legendary Amel Tafsout alongside one of London’s finest percussionists. Amel’s signature arm work is reminiscent of
Flamenco yet also retains the grounded feel of the Berber tradition - combined with her fabulous hip work creates an
ethereal dance that is powerfully from the earth.
The workshop will lead to a short choreography in 10/8 – one of the oldest rhythms of North Africa and the Middle East.

THE TAFSOUTETTES COMPANY OF MAGHREB AND ARAB DANCE
The Tafsoutettes are a dance company originally founded in 2001 by international choreographer and dance performer Amel TAFSOUT in order to accompany her to perform at the "Die Orientale" Festival in Dusseldorf. It consists of 4 dancers who studied Amel Tafsout's style for the last six years. Since then the company has develop to perform in different venues in London most notably the British Museum. "Watch this Space" National Theatre and festival in germany and the UK.
The company's aims to perform the dances of the Maghreb and other Arabic countries whith skills and sincerity and also to educate audiences about North African culture, most notably women's traditions through dance, story telling and traditional costume - but still retaining a sense of wit sharing the spirit of celebration.
Their recent performance has taken place at the Oriental Dance Festival in Dusseldorf with a piece related to the French Painters Delacroix and Picasso called "Les Femmes d'Alger dans Leur Appartement."
